Wow. The New York Yankees just got beaten by Carl Pavano and the Minnesota Twins. Yes, the same Carl Pavano that was paid 40 million dollars by the Yankees, and made a grand total of 19 starts in four years. This is by far the most irritating loss of the year. Pavano’s fastball never got any higher than 87 mph, and he was throwing straight junk. Coming in the game, the Twins were 2-7, and Yankees fans looked at this series as a great opportunity, but we just wasted the first game.
Freddy Garcia pitched quite lackluster for the second straight game, going 5 and 2/3, giving up 5 runs. With Hughes and Garcia pitching the way they are, lets hope the killer P’s(Pettite, Pineda, Phelps) get back to the team quickly.
The Positives: It’s hard to take many from this game, but three Yankee players come to mind. Derek Jeter continued his hot start with another inside-out homerun to right field. He had two hits to move his batting average up to .378. Curtis Granderson also had a good night, hitting a deep homerun into the upper deck in right, and then making a fantastic defensive play to deny Justin Morneau an extra-base hit. And last is Alex Rodriguez. He had 2 hits and another line drive that unfortunately went straight to the left fielder. He is starting to look more comfortable at the plate, which is going to be key if the Yankees have success this year.
Look Ahead: CC Sabathia will be back on the mound tomorrow night, looking to get his first good start under his belt. Bottom line: this is a must win against a below average team, with our ace on the mound.
